Gunshots were exchanged in an East Valley park on Monday morning after a man in a vehicle attempted to rob a group of Pokemon Go players, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Just after 4 a.m., six people playing Pokemon Go in Freedom Park, near North Pecos Road and East Washington Avenue, were approached by a man in a vehicle who fired a gun at them, demanding money and of goods, Metro said.
One of the victims recovered her own weapon and there was an exchange of gunfire, said metro lieutenant David Gordon.
Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the man from the Pokemon Go group had a license to carry a concealed weapon.
A man in the group was shot dead once. He was taken to the university medical center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Another man – who police believe is the suspect in the vehicle – was dropped off at the same medical center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.
Detectives are investigating the incident, Gordon said.
The theft suspect and a minor have been arrested, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
